Meet Dr. Tammy Higgins
Choosing a Natural Path
A native of Peterborough, Dr. Tammy grew up in a sporting household and always knew she wanted to work in healthcare in some capacity. Originally considering medical school, an undergraduate friend who had enrolled in chiropractic college inspired her to look into chiropractic.
She was intrigued by the chiropractic philosophy that the body has the innate ability to heal itself naturally when interference is removed, which clicked with her own views about health and wellness. She took the time to talk to many chiropractors before making her decision, and she was impressed that every one of them loved their profession and encouraged her to pursue it. That solidified her choice, and she enrolled at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.

Dr. Tammy graduated with her Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1999. She has extensive additional training, including a 500-hour Traditional Chinese Medicine program in acupuncture, and she is Advanced Proficiency rated in Activator Methods®. With her extensive experience and expertise, she is passionate about helping patients of all ages, including babies, seniors and athletes.
As someone who lives a wellness-based lifestyle herself, Dr. Tammy is committed to empowering patients to become more proactive in their approach to creating the best health possible for themselves and their families.
After graduation, Dr. Tammy practiced in Toronto for a year before returning to Peterborough to be closer to family and provide the highest level of care possible for the community she loves. She purchased an existing practice in 2001, and Higgins Chiropractic has grown through word-of-mouth referrals from patients who got the results they were looking for with our care.
Enjoying an Active Family Life
When she’s not helping patients, Dr. Tammy is usually at the gym, golfing or attending sporting events. Her extended family still lives in the area, and she enjoys spending time with them, including her son—who just signed a hockey contract in Europe—and her daughter.
